KOTA BARU: Durian lovers are thronging a stall at Wakaf Stan, here, as it is being sold at a wholesale price as low as RM30 per bag, depending on variety.
Wan Mohd Faizal Wan Mohd Noor, who operates 9932 Durian Stall stall at Jalan Tok Kenali in Wakaf Stan here, said the variety included "durian kampung".
Wan Mohd Faizal, 40, said he started the business in 2015 with durian kampung.
"I realised that many durian lovers are looking for the freshest durian, but could not afford to buy the expensive variety.
"So, l decided to sell the fruit at wholesale price and set the promotion as a regular affair every year since 2015," he said today.
The father of six said he operated the business with the help of 10 workers.
"Each customer is given an XL-sized plastic bag which they can fill it with as many durian kampung as they could.
"They are given five minutes to fill their plastic bags with the durians."
Mohd Faizal said his customers would queue at his stall from early as 9am, with 8 people or less allowed in it at one time.
"My stall is open every day and normally, about 1,000 customers come to my stall in a day," he said, adding his supply of durians were from smallholders in Johor.
Mohd Faizal said he was able to sell more than 12 tonnes of durian of various varieties, including the Musang King and D24 variety, in a day.
