CovidNow: 2,025 new Covid-19 cases reported on Tuesday

KUALA LUMPUR: The Covid-19 hospital bed utilisation rate in nine states stands at more than 70 per cent as of Tuesday (June 28).

Data on the Health Ministry's CovidNow platform showed that 484 Covid-19 cases were admitted to hospitals on Tuesday, slightly higher than the 460 cases the previous day.

Of the 484 admissions, 148 were in Selangor, 79 in Johor, 71 in Sabah, 38 in Sarawak, 36 in Kedah, 33 in Perak, 17 in Kuala Lumpur, 11 in Perlis, 10 each in Kelantan, Penang and Putrajaya, seven in Negri Sembilan, six in Terengganu, five in Melaka and three in Pahang.

The nine states with a hospital bed utilisation of over 70 per cent were Terengganu, Kedah, Melaka, Selangor, Johor, Kelantan, Perlis, Negri Sembilan and Pahang.

It said that 87.9 per cent of Terengganu hospital beds are currently being used. This was followed by Kedah, which has a utilisation rate at 87 per cent, and Melaka (83.4 per cent).

On Monday, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of Covid-19 cases admitted to hospitals and Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres (PKRC) have increased by 11 per cent during the 25th epidemiological week as compared to the previous week.

Meanwhile, a total 2,025 new Covid-19 infections were reported on Tuesday, including 20 imported cases.

This has pushed the cumulative cases to 4,560,583. Of the total, 4,497,078 people had recovered, 35,758 died of Covid-19 while 27,747 are currently infected.

Yesterday, 2,367 recoveries were recorded, while four deaths were registered, including one brought-in-dead case in Selangor.

Out of the 27,747 active cases, 26,541 cases are undergoing home quarantine, 1,155 are hospitalised, 37 warded at intensive care units (ICU) and 14 are being monitored at PKRCs.

Of the 37 cases, 19 of them involve patients who are being ventilated.

The ministry said an overall 72.3 per cent of hospital beds are currently being used, while 63.1 per cent of ICU beds are utilised.

It said 16.6 per cent of the PKRC beds are occupied, while 40.8 per cent of ventilators are being occupied nationwide.

In terms of hospital beds and ICU beds allocated for Covid-19 patients, it said 16.1 per cent of normal beds and 8.5 per cent of ICU beds are used.
