Elderly man a 'fortress' for fainted nephew at ministry parade [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: When Abdul Aziz Ya'acob saw his nephew, Nik Mohd Adhar, collapse at the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry's enforcers parade, he rushed to help keep the enforcement officer upright.

Abdul Aziz's slippers came undone as he sprinted towards his nephew, who fainted among marching officers at the ministry's enforcers day celebration.

The elderly man did not stop and dashed barefoot on the scorching ground to help his nephew.

Many people shed tears as they watched the scene unfold.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said there was a lot behind the pictures of the incident that have been shared online.

He said it was moving to see someone more than half a century old becoming a "fortress" to support his nephew.

"To those who still have their fathers, appreciate, love and respect them for as long as they live," Nanta said in an online post.

Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, in a Facebook post, said Nik Mohd Adhar, an enforcer in Tawau, Sabah, is his adopted son.

"He lost his parents when he was still schooling at Sekolah Genting Tumpat (Kelantan) and we took him in.

"The man who rushed to get him back up in the picture is his uncle, Abdul Aziz Ya'acob, who took care of him after both his parents died."
