Covid-19 vaccinations prevented thousands of deaths

KUALA LUMPUR: As of July 24, Covid-19 vaccinations have prevented between 16,000 and 17,000 deaths.

Institute for Clinical Research director Dr Kalaiarasu Peariasamy said the estimation was obtained from a model projection done by the Health Ministry recently.

"The projection accounted for overall vaccination rates and adjusted both infection rates and case mortality rates observed in both vaccinated and unvaccinated populations in Malaysia," he tweeted today.

According to the CovidNow portal, 98 per cent of adults in the country have taken two doses of vaccine.

Nearly half of the country's population or 16,176,976 people have also received their first booster shot, up to Monday.

Of that total, 294,542 people have gone for their second booster jabs.
