3,213 new Covid-19 cases, Kuala Lumpur highest

KUALA LUMPUR: Daily Covid-19 cases jumped to 3,213 on Tuesday compared to 2,783 the previous day.

Sixty per cent of the new cases were recorded in the Klang Valley with Kuala Lumpur recording the highest among all states and federal territories at 1,006, followed by Selangor (865 cases) and Putrajaya (59 cases).

Only 11 new infections were imported, with the remaining, all local transmissions.

As of July 30, the national positivity rate stood at 8.4 per cent with 29,290 tests reported to the Health Ministry comprising 25,294 RTK-Antigen and 3,996 RT-PCR.

A total 3,847 recoveries and eight deaths were reported, with two brought-in-dead cases in Kedah and Kuala Lumpur.

To date, a total 4,683,266 people in Malaysia had been infected with Covid-19 with 4,602,625 individuals recovered and 35,977 who died from the virus. There are 44,664 people currently infected.

Of the active cases, 43,080 or 96.5 per cent are undergoing home quarantine, 1,510 cases (3.4 per cent) are treated at hospitals, 54 cases (0.1 per cent) warded at intensive care units (ICU) while the remaining 20 cases are isolated at Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centre (PKRC).

Yesterday, 520 Covid-19 patients were admitted to hospitals.

Hospital bed usage is at 24.8 per cent for Covid-19 normal beds, 14.4 per cent of the Covid-19 ICU beds and 20.6 per cent of the PKRC beds.

Combining Covid and non-Covid cases, 66.4 per cent of the normal beds, 63.2 per cent of the ICU beds are currently utilised while 40.2 per cent of the ventilators are occupied.

Hospital bed utilisation rates in seven states is above 70 per cent, namely Melaka, Terengganu, Kedah, Perlis, Selangor, Kelantan, and Johor.

Melaka has the highest rate at 86.3 per cent, followed by Terengganu (83.6 per cent) and Kedah (82.6 per cent).

Meanwhile, 1.5 per cent of the adult population or 353,309 adults in the country have received the fourth Covid-19 vaccine jabs, while 68.6 per cent of people aged 18-years-old and above or 16,140,290 adults have taken their first booster shots.

Yesterday, 5,653 adults received their second booster shot and 986 adults took their first booster jab.

A total 42.3 per cent of children from five to 11 years old (1,502,393 children) have completed their primary vaccination, while almost 50 per cent of children have been inoculated once against Covid-19.
