KOTA BARU: The people today expressed their happiness over the proclamation of Che Puan Nur Diana Petra Abdullah as the Sultanah of Kelantan.
Describing the announcement as "very important news" for Kelantanese, they said it would put a lot of rumours to rest.
Computer technician Fauzi Yusoff said as subjects, everyone was thrilled for their state ruler.
"The news actually shocked everybody. Whatever it is, we, as the rakyat, are really happy for our Sultan," said the 33-year-old from Wakaf Baru.
Siti Hasana Abdul Ghani, 26, said the news helped "clear the air" on Sultan Muhammad V's marriage.
"We have been reading news about the Sultan of Kelantan which went viral on social media.
"Netizens have often debated about the ruler since he divorced his Russian wife. But now with the declaration, there should be no more issue on his marriage," said the Tumpat native.
Security guard Mohd Ariff Said said like other Kelantanese, he was glad that Sultan Muhammad V finally declared his marriage.
"We will always pray not only for the sultan's happiness, but also for Tengku Mahkota of Kelantan and his consort as well as the rest of the royal family," said the 39-year-old from Wakaf Baru.
Private sector worker Nurul Naeisha Azhan said she could not wait for the Sultanah of Kelantan's first public appearance.
"Many of us are excited to see her when she makes her debut in the public eye. I believe she is gorgeous and nice just like Her Highness Che Puan Mahkota of Kelantan," she said.
Sultan Muhammad V proclaimed his wife, Che Puan Nur Diana Petra Abdullah, the Sultanah of Kelantan, effective today.
The proclamation, which was read out by Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob at Istana Balai Besar here, saw the new Sultanah also bestowed with the tutle of Her Highness Che Puan Mahkota of Kelantan.
Ahmad said the proclamation was made in accordance with Clause (1) Article 43 of the Kelantan Constitution (Part Two).
Sultan Muhammad V also bestowed the title of Her Highness Che Puan Mahkota Kelantan to Che Puan Sofie Louise Johansson Petra, wife of the Tengku Mahkota Kelantan.
