3,490 new Covid-19 cases, six deaths yesterday

KUALA LUMPUR: The country's Covid-19 cases dropped to 3,490 infections yesterday (Aug 19) from 4,071 infections the previous day.

The country's cumulative infections now stand at 4,752,490 cases.

A total 3,487 of the infections were local while three were imported cases.

Kuala Lumpur recorded the highest daily infections yesterday at 915 cases, followed by 796 cases in Selangor.

The rest of the states reported infections below 300 each.

According to the CovidNow website, there were currently 42,767 active Covid-19 cases after 3,193 recoveries.

From the figure, 41,212, or 96.4 per cent were placed under home quarantine and 26 (0.1 per cent) were placed at Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRC).

A total 1,454 of the active cases were hospitalised while 75 patients being treated at the intensive care units (ICU), with 45 of them requiring ventilator support.

Six fatalities linked to Covid-19 were reported yesterday.

The Covid-19 deaths were reported in Selangor and Melaka with two cases each, and Johor and Pahang with one death each.

The overall death toll now stood at 36,130 since the pandemic started over two years ago.

With 3,289 recoveries recorded yesterday, the total number of recovery cases was at 4,670,400.

A total 16,207,667 individuals have taken their Covid-19 first booster shot so far while 437,751 others have taken their second booster dose.

As for the elderly aged over 60, a total 2,589,862 have been vaccinated with Covid-19 first booster shots while 175,321 of them have also taken another booster dose so far.

A total 16,160,225 adults aged 18 and above have received first booster dose while 437,477 have taken their second booster dose.

The portal also said that 1,522,548 of children aged five to 11 have been fully vaccinated while 2,877,005 of adolescents aged 12 to 17 have also been fully vaccinated.
