Covid-19: 2,768 new cases, six deaths yesterday

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded another 2,798 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, a slight drop from Friday's (Aug 19) 3,490.

The country's cumulative cases now stand at 4,755,288.

Based on the Health Ministry's CovidNow portal, 2,793 of the fresh infections were local transmissions while another five were imported.

Selangor tops the list once again with three-digit cases at 836, followed by Kuala Lumpur (570), Sabah (262), Perak (222), Negri Sembilan (161), Melaka (129) and Penang (111).

States with two-digit cases were Putrajaya with 94, followed by Sarawak (90), Kedah (86), Johor (78), Pahang (74), Kelantan (37) and Terengganu (34).

Meanwhile, Perlis and Labuan recorded nine and five cases respectively.

The Health Ministry had also recorded 4,669 recoveries, which pushed the recovery tally to 4,678,262.

Based on the CovidNow portal, there was a slight decrease in active cases with 40,890 reported yesterday.

Of these active cases, 39,417 were placed under home quarantine and another 34 were treated at low-risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRC).

The portal reported 1,379 patients were hospitalised with 39 of them requiring ventilator support and treated in the intensive care units, while another 26 were not ventilated.

Six patients had succumbed to the virus including one brought-in-dead case.

Selangor and Kuala Lumpur reported two deaths each, followed by one each in Johor and Negri Sembilan.

The total number of deaths now stood at 36,136.
