Royal Lake Club removes Najib as patron

KUALA LUMPUR: Royal Lake Club has revoked the patronship conferred on former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak with immediate effect.

Its president Manjeet Singh Dhillon said the general committee had discussed Najib's status, who has been a club patron since June 1, 2011, during a Thursday (Aug 25) meeting.

"This was due to the fact he was convicted by the Federal Court on Aug 23.

"The club is perfectly entitled to make such a decision as it wants to," he told the New Straits Times today.

Manjeet said the email on the revocation of patronship was blasted to club members this morning.

He added that Najib's name will be removed from the Royal Lake Club website soon.

Two other patrons of the club, which was founded on August 16, 1890, are former premiers Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
