KUALA LUMPUR: A helicopter lost contact with the Kuala Lumpur Air Traffic Control Centre at 12.16pm today.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong confirmed the matter in a Facebook post.

He said he was informed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) of an ongoing search for the helicopter in Perak.

A search and rescue (SAR) operation has been activated together with Bidor police.

"The Eurocopter helicopter operated by a local company had taken off from the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang, Selangor at 11.37am for a private flight with one pilot in command onboard and was scheduled to land at 12.37pm at the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport, Ipoh, Perak.

"I wish our personnel good luck in the search and pray for the best," he said.

Wee had also spoken about the matter to reporters after visiting the Ipoh KTMB Station today.

Bernama quoted the minister as saying that the CAAM and the police would issue further statements regarding the incident and both parties have mobilised search and rescue teams at the actual location, based on the established procedures.

Wee mentioned that the last reported location of the helicopter was around a forest area near Bidor.
