Khairy confirms Najib sent back to HKL for more medical tests

PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been sent back to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) today for another round of tests following claims that he was suffering from stomach ulcers and high blood pressure.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said this is being done to assuage his family members so that there is no dispute to the facility's standard of care and treatment.

On claims by Najib's daughter, Nooryana Najwa, that a change in her his medication was to blame for his high blood pressure, Khairy said it did not "represent the real situation."

The former prime minister, he said, was merely given the generic version of the patented drug that he was originally taking.

Khairy however expressed full confidence in the team of doctors that treated and attended to the former Umno president over the weekend.

This included senior consultant physician and gastronenthologist Dr Rosaida Md Said.

Asked to elaborate on Najib's appeal for observation in hospital, he said he could not divulge more information because it involved the latter's personal medical history.

Khairy also denied claims that Najib would be transferred to the National Heart Institute (IJN).

He said that when Najib was warded on Friday, doctors had throughly checked and conducted several tests on him.

Khairy said that they had also shared and held conferences with the family, including Najib's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor twice since then.

"No inmate will be denied their fundamental right in terms of access to healthcare and this includes Datuk Seri Najib."

He said this this after launching Malaysia's Covid-19 Vaccination: Public Private Partnership Report, at the ministry's headquarters here today.

Also present was Health deputy director-general (Medical) Datuk Dr Asmayani Khalib.
