Selangor ruler, Tengku Permaisuri convey condolences on Queen Elizabeth II's passing

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin have conveyed their deepest condolences on the passing of Queen Elizabeth II to the British Royal Family and the British people.

In a statement today, Istana Alam Shah said Queen Elizabeth II would always be remembered with deep respect and affection as a sovereign who had dedicated her life to the service of her people.

"Her reign was characterised by a sense of duty, dedication and commitment in serving her countries and the Commonwealth.

"She stands admired and revered across the world as a figure of stability and of unity over a lifetime of enormous change."

Queen Elizabeth II visited Malaysia on several occasions, namely in 1972, 1989 and 1998.

In 1972, she attended a lunch with the late Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah at Istana Alam Shah in Klang.

In 1989, as part of the 11th Commonwealth Heads of Government (CHOGM) meeting, she visited the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque in Shah Alam and had high tea at Istana Alam Shah.

Sultan Sharafuddin was also honoured to have been invited to then Royal Yacht HMS Britannia to have dinner when it berthed at Port Klang in 1972 and 1989 on the invitation of Queen Elizabeth II.

"Her Majesty was always very gracious and engaging in her discussions to continually improve bilateral relations with the people of Selangor and Malaysia.

"Once again, His Royal Highness Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and Her Royal Highness Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin extend their heartfelt condolences to Her Majesty's family and her people."
