Zhen Feng's ashes brought back home to Ipoh

IPOH: The ashes of Goi Zhen Feng, 25, were brought home to Panorama Lapangan Akasia here by his parents today.

Zhen Feng, believed to have been a victim of a job scam syndicate, died on May 11 in Thailand.

A gloomy atmosphere filled the deceased's house when his parents arrived at 5.15pm, along with Teruntum (Pahang) assemblyman Sim Chon Siang. Sim has been helping the couple in Bangkok from the time they reached in the Thai capital on Aug 30.

Zhen Feng's father, Goi Chee Kong, 50, and his 45-year-old mother, who were received by their two other sons, daughter and relatives, were too grief-stricken to talk to the media.

Chee Kong thanked the media for coverage of his son.

A two-day prayer service, starting today, will be held to enable family and friends to pay their last respects to Zhen Feng.

The funeral will be held at Papan Memorial Park here on Sunday.

Zhen Feng was cremated yesterday at the Hin Kong Temple in Si Racha, about 120km southeast of Bangkok, attended by his parents and Sim.

The couple arrived in Bangkok on Aug 30 and were scheduled to go to Mae Sot the next day to meet their son at Mae Sot Hospital.

However, they were informed that Zhen Feng, 25, had died at 2am on May 11.

The couple found out that their son was a victim of a job scam syndicate in Myawaddy, Myanmar.

A doctor also told them that their son had been abused and that he was sent to the hospital by syndicate members on April 11 using a fake passport bearing the name "Mun Jun Hong".

The victim was admitted to the hospital's intensive care unit and died a month later. His body was buried at the Si Racha cemetery in Chonburi province under the name provided by the syndicate.

On Sept 2, the victim's family raised funds to pay hospital bills totalling RM40,000 before they could get a death certificate to carry out a DNA test, perform a cremation ceremony and bring his ashes back to Ipoh. – Bernama
