Rep: Extend period poverty initiative to all B40 women in Pahang

KUANTAN: The Pahang government has been asked to consider extending the period poverty initiative tabled in the 2023 state budget to all women in the B40 group, rather than just teenagers.

While expressing her support for the initiative, Ketari assemblyman Young Syefura Othman said period poverty involved all women in the B40 group, not just teenagers.

"Many do not realise the seriousness of period poverty. It is not just about the difficulty faced by the women in getting sanitary pads, but also in getting clear water to clean themselves during their menstrual cycle," she said when debating the Pahang 2023 Budget at the state assembly here today.

Last Friday, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, when tabling the state budget, announced an allocation of RM500,000 to tackle period poverty among teenagers in the state.

Meanwhile, state opposition leader Lee Chin Chen called on the state government to carry out a comprehensive review of roads in Bentong and Raub to reduce the risk of landslides.

"Proper road maintenance should also be carried out. This is to prevent fatal road accidents and inconvenience to the people if the roads have to be closed for repair and maintenance due to landslides."

The sitting continues tomorrow. — BERNAMA
