MetMalaysia: Expect thunderstorms from Monday until polling day

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has forecast thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds to hit several areas nationwide from Sunday (Nov 13) until polling day on Nov 19.

In a statement posted this evening on its social media account, MetMalaysia said its weather model analysis estimated that the extreme weather is set to mostly affect rural areas, western Peninsular, Sarawak and western Sabah especially in the evening lasting until night, throughout the period.

Malaysia is set to go to polls on Nov 19, after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the dissolution of parliament on Oct 10, paving the way for the 15th General Election (GE15).

Early voting is slated to take place on Nov 15.

In its latest update today, MetMalaysia issued a thunderstorm and strong winds warning (valid until 10pm) for Kedah (Kota Setar, Yan, Kuala Muda, Kulim and Bandar Baharu), Penang, Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim), Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Pekan and Rompin), Negri Sembilan (Kuala Pilah, Jempol and Tampin), Melaka, Johor, Sarawak (Miri and Limbang), rural areas in Sabah (Sipitang and Kuala Penyu), and Labuan.
