LRT services expected to restart sooner than scheduled, says Ismail Sabri

BERA: Light rail transit (LRT) services that were disrupted since Nov 9 are expected to be restored sooner than scheduled, said the caretaker prime minister today.

Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said repairs were being carried out by Rapid Rail's technical team, with guidance from the system manufacturer Thales Group from Canada and Singapore.

He said the government has set up a committee led by the Transport Ministry to identify the cause of the breakdown.

"So far, the test data from running 38 sets of trains on the Gombak-Putra Heights line today showed all the safety systems are stable.

"The signal and communications system will be tested again tonight and assessed to ensure that the Kelana Jaya LRT line is ready to safely operate ahead of Nov 15," he said after a meet-the-people session at Kampung Batu Papan in Kuala Bera here.

RapidKL had announced the suspension of LRT services at 16 stations between Kelana Jaya and Ampang Park from Nov 9 to 15 due to a malfunction in the automatic train control system.
