GE15: Chaos ensues as polling centres closed early

KUALA PILAH: Three videos have gone viral showing disgruntled voters when they were not allowed to enter a polling centre at Balai Raya Kampung Melang, here, which was closed as early as 2pm.

In the video recorded by the public, the gate of the polling centre was closed although there several people waiting to fulfill their voting responsibilities in 15th General Election (GE15).

There was a bit of a ruckus because they claimed that the polling station should have remained open until 6pm.

Meanwhile, Kuala Pilah returning officer Mohd Faizal Abdul Manap said according to Form 8 of the Election Commission (EC), some polling stations were to close early including in Kampung Melang.

"The polling station at Balai Raya Kampung Melang was to close at 2pm. It was already gazetted by the EC and it can be referred to in form 8.

"We (officers) are only carrying out the instructions given by the EC. If the polling centrr is open until 6om like other centres, there would be objections from the EC itself," he said when contacted today.

Mohd Faizal said he was also sorry that there were voters who could not fulfill their responsibility to choose their preferred candidate.

"However, it has already been decided that way. Not only in Kampung Melang, there are polling centres that closed earlier at 2pm and 4pm.

"Voters should also be more aware of the timing of their polling centres and they should have gone out to vote earlier," he said.
