Journalists on Istana Negara stakeout get fed

KUALA LUMPUR: Generous Malaysians are at it again, filling the tummies of police on duty and media personnel who are waiting for the latest developments on the country's new administration outside Istana Negara here.

Business operators have taken it upon themselves to provide food and drinks for those on duty outside the palace.

Among those spotted providing breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner were Mahbub, Pelita and Ali Maju restaurants.

Tune Protect Group Berhad distributed chicken rice, packet drinks and fruits to media and police personnel on duty in the evening.

Tune Protect Group senior manager of communications Rozieana Jamaluddin said it had also done this during the change of government in 2020.

She said this was part of its corporate social responsibility to honour those working hard to provide the public with the latest news.

"If not for you, we won't be getting the latest updates. Thank you for that," she said.

The 15th General Election yesterday saw no political coalition securing a simple majority of 112 seats in the Dewan Rakyat.

Local and international media personnel had gathered outside Istana Negara as early as 7am.

Every car that passed through the palace guard post into Istana Negara was scrutinised.

Two canopies have been set up outside Gate 2 for media personnel.

This stakeout is expected to last until the new government is formed.
