New federal government should instil spirit of togetherness among Malaysians

KUALA LUMPUR: Negri Sembilan Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir has decreed that no leader should bring up issues of race and religion aiming at inciting the people.

Tuanku Muhriz, who chaired the 260th Conference of Rulers at Istana Negara today, said he wanted the new federal government to instil the spirit of togetherness among Malaysians of various religious, racial and cultural backgrounds.

"I also urge the new government to use any opportunity to its best to bring the country to greater heights," said Tuanku Muhriz in a statement released by Keeper of the Rulers' Seal Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad today.

His Majesty also suggested that the country's appointed leaders lead the recitation of the Rukun Negara at events deemed suitable from time to time.

"This will prove that the government is serious in making the Rukun Negara the foundation and guide of Malaysians. The recitation must be conducted by appointed leaders and no longer by vocal youths.

"The new government should support and reinforce the principles of the Rukun Negara. Its spirit and values should be practised and upheld by the people and not treated as mere writings," he said.

Tuanku Muhriz also congratulated the winners of the 15th General Election, the Prime Minister and Menteri Besar.

He said the positions came with huge responsibilities which gave them the chance to propel the country forward.

"I am of the view that these big roles must be shouldered based on the principles of the Rukun Negara," he said.
