Body of missing senior citizen found

KUALA PILAH: The body of a man, believed to be that of the senior citizen who has been missing since Nov 22, was found in a swampy area near Kampung Jumbang, Seri Menanti, earlier today.

The body was found by members of the public about 2.30pm. The man is believed to have died more than three days ago.

District police chief Superintendent Amran Mohd Ghani said, based on initial investigations, there were no criminal elements involved.

"The victim is believed to have died more than three days ago and perhaps this case is connected to another case of a missing person, a 67-year-old senior citizen from Kampung Sikai, Gunung Pasir, Seri Menanti," he said when contacted.

However, he said that further investigations were underway to ascertain the true identity of the victim.

"The next of kin (of the missing senior citizen) will be called in to identify the body," he said.

On Nov 28, it was reported that Salmiah Abu Zahrin, 44, was worried about her father who did not return home for a week and was unreachable, after which she lodged a missing person's report with the police.

Salmiah said her father had suffered from depression after separating from her mother in 1993, after which he became reserved.
