Accident victim given posthumous degree at USM convo

GEORGE TOWN: Muhammad Nurshamril Abdul Malek, 28, who died in a road accident in October last year, has been awarded a posthumous degree at Universiti Sains Malaysia's 60th convocation here on Monday.

His parents Abdul Malek Abdul Samad, 59, and Sabariah Nawi, 53, who received the Bachelor of Communication (Film and Broadcasting) (Honours) scroll on behalf of their late son, said they were proud that he almost completed his course.

"He only had two more semesters to complete before he graduated.

"But Allah loves him more. Nevertheless, we are proud to receive this scroll on his behalf," said Abdul Malek, struggling to hold back his tears.

The third of seven siblings was on his way back to Kuala Lumpur with three other friends after shooting a film in Kelantan when the car he was driving crashed at KM71, Jalan Kota Baru-Kuala Terengganu on Oct 13, last year.

He died at the scene while his three friends sustained serious injuries.

"He had always loved filming and broadcasting, like his brother who is a cameraman with TV3," he said.
