PM Anwar sends condolences to Teh's family

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today conveyed his condolences to the family of Tan Sri Dr Teh Hong Piow, who died this morning.

Anwar said the death of the Public Bank founder was a great loss to Teh's family, the banking sector and the country.

"My prayer is with his family and I hope they will stay strong following his death," said the prime minister on Facebook.

Public Bank, in a statement today, said Teh had passed away peacefully at 10.20am today. He was 92.

Teh was born in Singapore on March 14, 1930, having attended his formal primary and secondary education at the Anglo Chinese School in Singapore, according to a biography note on Public Bank's website.

Public Bank's shares declined by 0.68 per cent or three sen to RM4.38 at press time.

The bank is currently the second largest company listed on Bursa Malaysia with a market capitalisation of RM85.21 billion.
