Covid-19 cases fall 33.7pc in 50th epidemiological week

KUALA LUMPUR: Daily new Covid-19 cases in the country fell 33.7 per cent to 7,249 cases in the 50th epidemiological week (Dec 11 to 17) from 10,937 cases in the week before.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today said local cases fell 33.8 per cent from 10,923 cases to 7,232 cases in the period, while imported cases rose 21.4 per cent from 14 cases to 17 cases.

He said recoveries in the same week fell 30.3 per cent from 14,816 patients to 10,330 patients, while deaths rose 9.3 per cent from 43 cases to 47 cases.

He said cumulatively, 5,017,016 cases of Covid-19 have been recorded between Jan 25, 2020 and Saturday, with recoveries at 4,964,534 cases and deaths at 36,800 cases.

He said a total of 7,162 clusters have been recorded, with 21 clusters still active.

On hospital and low-risk treatment centre admissions per 100,000 people, Dr Noor Hisham said the number fell by 21.6 per cent.

He said admissions to public hospitals for Category 1 (asymptomatic) and 2 (symptomatic) patients saw a decline of 28.6 per cent, while admissions for Category 3 (lung infection), 4 (requiring oxygen aid) and 5 (on ventilator) patients saw a decline of 31 per cent.
