Batang Kali landslide: Only one more victim missing, not three, say police

BATANG KALI: Police today clarified that only one victim from the deadly Batang Kali landslide remains unaccounted for, and not three.

The lone victim is that of a boy.

This also brings the total number of victims to 92 instead of 94.

Selangor police chief, Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed, said there were two redundant entries on the Father's Organic Farm campsite registry, which led to the confusion over the actual number of people at the site when the landslide hit on Friday morning.

He said although the authorities had learnt of the redundant registrations several days ago, they had to verify and compare the entries with missing persons reports and next-of-kin claims before making any announcements.

"We knew about it a few days ago but we wanted to be sure. That's always the case before making any official announcements.

"So now, we can confidently declare that a total of 92 people were involved instead of the 94 mentioned in earlier statements," he said in a press conference here today.

Arjunaidi said there is only one child, a boy who is still missing.

He said the authorities will not rest until he is found.

"There is a police report lodged on the missing boy. The search will continue until the boy's body is found," he said.
