BAYAN LEPAS: An Indonesian woman's joke about having bomb inside her luggage cost her dearly when she was detained by authorities at the Penang International Airport (PIA) here yesterday.
The 33-year-old operator at a factory in Ipoh was supposed to have boarded a 5.30pm flight back to Medan, Indonesia, with two friends.
Southwest police chief Superintendent Kamarul Rizal Jenal said police were alerted to the incident about 5.10pm.
"The suspect, a foreign woman, was detained after she joked with staff checking her luggage that there was bomb inside.
"Her joke was clearly heard by the staff manning the check-in counter as well as other passengers," he said today.
Kamarul Rizal said the woman has been remanded for two days to facilitate investigations into the incident.
The case is being probed under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
