PM Anwar joins special prayers for New Year

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim joined a congregation of about 2,000 people at the Putra Mosque here tonight to offer special prayers for the New Year at the "Munajat Ambang Tahun Baru" programme.

Clad in a light yellow Baju Melayu, Anwar arrived at the mosque at 6.20pm and was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Mohd Na'im Mokhtar to a meal before joining the congregational Maghrib prayer.

The prayer was led by Putra Mosque Grand Imam Salahuddin Ghozali. The prayer was followed by the reading of the Yassin.

Anwar is also scheduled to give a speech at 8pm, before performing Isyak prayers.
