Kelantan govt: We didn't get RM50 mil flood aid promised by PM

TUMPAT: The Kelantan state government today claimed that it did not receive the RM50 million allocation for flood aid announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob said he was informed that the allocation, instead of being given to the state government, was instead channelled to the Kelantan Federal Development Department (JPP).

"The prime minister recently announced an allocation of RM50 million each to Kelantan and Terengganu to help the two states which were affected by the floods.

"I was informed that the allocation is now with the JPP. We do not know how the JPP will be disbursing the aid to the people in Kelantan," he said.

Ahmad, who is Pasir Pekan assemblyman, told this to reporters after attending the handover of donation to flood victims here today.

On Dec 21, Anwar had announced an immediate allocation of RM50 million each to Kelantan and Terengganu.

Anwar said the allocations were to help people in both states who were affected by the floods.

He said the government hoped that the allocation would benefit the people of both states along with the RM1,000 and RM10,000 cash aid given to flood victims.
