Thaipusam: Downpour does little to dampen Kavadi bearers' spirit

BATU CAVES: The evening's downpour did not dampen the Kavadi bearers' spirit to fulfil their prayers for Lord Muruga in Batu Caves today.

Despite the heavy rain, devotees carrying the big peacock-feather kavadi continued walking barefeet until they reached Lord Muruga's shrine and poured the milk offering which they had taken with the kavadi.

Some others, as well as visitors watching the procession, were seen running for cover as the rain started at about 5.45pm.

Some sought shelter at nearby canopies while hoping for the rain to stop.

The cloudy sky during Thaipusam yesterday, which was unlike in previous years when the sun shone brightly, provided a cooler atmosphere for those present.

Those who did not stop to seek shelter were mostly young parents carrying their new-born babies, the elderly and devotees using walking aids.
