SOP for mental patients at hospital wards and clinics will be revised following stabbing incident in Selayang Hospital

GOMBAK: The Health Ministry will review its standard operating procedure (SOP) for patients with psychiatric disorders.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in his tweet, the new sops were to ensure the safety of other patients during their time at the emergency ward and clinics.

He was commenting on the incident at Selayang Hospital where a psychiatric patient stabbed a man who came to hospital seeking treatment for dengue fever, yesterday.

In his tweet, he said the psychiatric patient brought in by the police.

"Such incidents can happen anywhere. We need to safeguard our patients in emergency departments and our clinics," he said.

He added that the injured patient who was stabbed was treated by the medical team and is in stable condition.
