Govt to resolve foreign labour shortage in 3 months via Foreign Worker Recruitment Relaxation Plan

KUALA LUMPUR: The government aims to resolve foreign labour shortage within three months through the Foreign Worker Recruitment Relaxation Plan, the Dewan Rakyat heard today.

Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar said the plan would expedite the approval process for foreign labour quota, including the employment approval. The plan, which started on Jan 17, will be implemented until March 31.

"It involves several critical sectors, including manufacturing, construction, plantation, agriculture and services for the restaurant subsector."

He said this in reply to a question from Lim Guan Eng (Pakatan Harapan-Bagan), who wanted to know about the efforts taken to expedite the entry of foreign workers, and when the issue could be resolved.

Sivakumar said under the plan, employers would be allowed to employ foreign workers from 15 source countries without having to go through employment eligibility prerequisites and quota eligibility. "Apart from that, employers need not advertise job vacancies on the MyFuture Jobs portal (before hiring)."
