CyberSecurity Malaysia to probe MySejahtera 'super admin'

KUALA LUMPUR: CyberSecurity Malaysia has been instructed to investigate the leak of MySejahtera app data involving the "super admin" account.

Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil expressed concern that the data might be misused for unknown purposes.

"It was learnt that a lot of data was retrieved from MySejahtera.

"Therefore, we must get to the bottom of this," he said at the winding up of the debate on the motion of thanks on the royal address at the Dewan Rakyat.

Fahmi said such an incident would call for the amendment of the Personal Data Protection Act.

"We hope that the honourable members of this august house will support the amendment.

"The data is our national treasure," he said.

Meanwhile, on the direction of the Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB), Fahmi said the ministry was currently scrutinising the policy during the implementation of the country's 5G network.

"Several engagement sessions were held to get input and views from various industry players and related government agencies.

"It is to ensure that the financial, technical and legal aspects are being assessed comprehensively.

"However, this process does not interfere with DNB's current operations and planning, that will continue as planned," he said.

In another development, Fahmi said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) would host an open day in parliament.

"The open day will allow every member of parliament to forward the network problems in their respective constituency directly to the commission for immediate investigation.

"InsyaAllah, on March 6 and 7. I hope all MPs can identify all the problems in their respective constituencies and forward them to the MCMC," he said.

Fahmi was responding to queries from several MPs namely Datuk Willie Mongin (GPS-Puncak Borneo), Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman (PN-Kuala Krai) and Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jack Seng (BN-Tanjung Piai) regarding Internet problem in their constituencies.
