Rompin cops waiting for DNA report on rotting corpse found in Bukit Ibam

ROMPIN: Police are awaiting the DNA report to verify the identity of a decomposed body found near a disused mining pond at Bukit Ibam near here last month.

The male deceased, found shirtless and wearing knee-length black jeans, was found about 4.05pm on Feb 28 by some passersby.

District police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Azahari Mukhtar said the department was waiting for the DNA test results and forensics report to obtain further details on the corpse.

"Initial investigations revealed that the body found near the mining pond was (that of a man aged) between 30 and 50 years old. No identification documents were found on the body.

"We have yet to identify if the body belonged to a local man or foreigner. To date, the police have not received any missing persons report," he said.

Azahari urged individuals with information or those looking for missing family members or acquaintances to immediately contact the Bukit Ibam police station chief Sergeant Major Shahril Sukimah at 013-8152551.
