Dr Maszlee resumes teaching career after leaving politics

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Education Minister Prof Dr Maszlee Malik has returned to academia as a lecturer after leaving the field several years ago.

He shared the news of his appointment as a lecturer at Cyberjaya University on his Instagram page yesterday.

In his post, Maszlee, who is also former Simpang Renggam member of parliament, expressed gratitude for the appointment and shared that he will be teaching selected topics in humanities and education-related subjects.

"I'm back to teaching. Thank you, University of Cyberjaya for the trust given.

"I will be giving lectures on selected topics in humanities and education related subjects," he wrote.

Prior to his political career, Maszlee was a lecturer at the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM).

He was later appointed as the Education Minister during the Pakatan Harapan (PH) leadership era in 2018.

However, he resigned from his post on Jan 2, 2020, following advice from the then-Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Maszlee obtained a bachelor's degree from Al al-Bayt University in Jordan, and then pursued a Master's degree at the University of Malaya, where he studied Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh.

In 2011, he earned a doctorate for his research on 'good governance' from Durham University, United Kingdom.
