KUALA LUMPUR: Umno has nominated Melaka Umno chief Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh as the next Chief Minister of Melaka.
Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi conveyed the nomination to Melaka Governor Tun Mohd Ali Rustam via a warkah earlier today, along with a request to accept the resignation of Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali as Melaka's 12th Chief Minister.
"The party has proposed Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh as the next Melaka Chief Minister.
"Full stop.
"We hope the spirit of unity government will be extended to Melaka," he said in a press conference today.
When asked about the reason behind Sulaiman's resignation, Zahid said he was informed it was due to health reasons.
A swearing-in ceremony for the 14th Chief Minister of Melaka is expected to be held tomorrow.
The issue of the change in chief minister arose a few months after Barisan Nasional's significant victory in the state election on Nov 20, 2021.
