Fisherman goes without food, water for 2 days after boat runs out of fuel

KOTA KINABALU: A fisherman had to go without food and water for two days after his boat ran out of fuel.

Luckily for Egimisak Besak, 63, his boat drifted near the Royal Malaysian Navy's offshore station Uniform and he was rescued by sailors based there on Saturday.

The RMN Eastern Fleet headquarters, in a statement, said the "mothership" that Egimisak, who is from Pulau Gaya, was on had launched six boats into the water on March 30.

However, his boat had gotten separated from everyone else and the mothership.

Having strayed too far, Egimisak's boat ran out of fuel.

"As he was out of fuel, all he could do was drift in the boat for two days until the currents brought him to the offshore station.

"The victim was in stable condition when we found him. He was given clothes, food and drink," the statement said.

It said that Egimisak would be sent to Kota Kinabalu soon.
