PM introduces affordable homes for KL city folks under new scheme

KUALA LUMPUR: The government announced another new initiative for Kuala Lumpur city folks to own affordable homes via the introduction of the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory Madani Neighborhood scheme program.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government created a programme for more B40, M40 and the poor, whose household earnings are less than RM7,000 to secure a roof over their heads.

He said the Madani affordable housing program will cater for three income groups.

The first, for M40 households caters to those earning RM7,000 a month, will enable them to purchase a 800 square feet unit for RM200,000 via the Residency Prihatin Madani housing scheme program.

"The second group which are the B40 households with an income of RM5,000 or less will be eligible to purchase a 750 square feet unit (home) for RM180,000 via the Residency Madani scheme.

"We also have an ownership scheme for singles and newly weds below 30-years-old, Residency Sejahtera Madani, can be bought by those with RM4,000 income or less," he said in his speech at officiation of a multi-level car park at Taman Tasik Metropolitan Kepong this evening.

The Residency Sejahtera Madani unit will be slightly smaller at 700 square feet built up, and priced at RM150,000.

He said all three Madani affordable homes will have three rooms, two baths and come with at least one car park.

For houses that are bought under these schemes, the ownership can only be passed down to the next generation or next-of-kin. It can not be sold to anyone outside except to City Hall Kuala Lumpur.

"Meanwhile, for those earning less than RM2,500 household income a month, who are not able to own a property, the government has come up with two rental schemes, Madani Council Home and Ihsan Madani Development Housing".

He said Council home is targeted at the M40 and B40 groups who are not eligible to own homes.

"This is a rental scheme where the 700 square feet units will be charged RM600 monthly for a maximum of five years occupancy," he said.

The Ihsan Madani Housing Development, which is targeted at B40 and Vulnerable Poor will be charged RM300 monthly for the same built up size unit, he added.
