KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 3,073 MyKiosk stalls will be built by year-end to provide stall owners with more arranged, safe and comfortable business spaces, said Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming.
He said as of this month, the ministry has approved a total of 3,173 MyKiosk units to 113 local authorities totalling RM49.14 million, out of RM50 million allocated by the unity government for the purpose.
He said to date, 100 units were completed in five locations, namely Sepang Municipal Council, Kuala Langat Municipal Council, Kuala Pilah District Council, Seremban City Council and Port Dickson Municipal Council.
"MyKiosk is an initiative driven by the Madani Economy framework, which provides an opportunity for the B40 group to start a business, subsequently improving their lives.
"The contribution of small traders has never been underestimated by the ministry, instead the improvement in micro-economy has contributed to a positive impression on the country's economy," he said in a statement.
He added MyKiosk also aimed to improve the socio-economic status of the traders by offering low rental rates for the stalls.
"It also provides more arranged commercial space that is safe and comfortable for traders. This also indirectly increases the income of local authorities involved through kiosk rent charged to the traders."
Earlier, Nga launched MyKiosk at Taman Putra Perdana in Sepang.
He added the ministry will continue to monitor the MyKiosk initiative from time to time, to ensure that it can help them to generate income and increase their revenues.
