PH Machang Bubok seat candidate faints from exhaustion

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Pakatan Harapan candidate representing PKR for the Machang Bubok state legislative assembly (DUN) seat, Lee Khai Loon reportedly fainted at his office here today.

Deputy chairman of PKR Penang, Datuk Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik, said Lee, aged 45, collapsed upon arriving at his office after campaigning for the state election in the Machang Bubok area at around 11am this morning.

"Khai Loon may have been exhausted due to the hot weather this morning. But he regained consciousness a while ago and is now in stable condition. There is no serious illness with Khai Loon... he was not sent to the hospital and is resting at home today," he said when contacted by Bernama.

Muhammad Bakhtiar, who is also the Member of Parliament for Balik Pulau, said all of Lee's programs and campaigns for today have been cancelled but the party machinery will continue with the planned campaign, including meeting voters in the area.

"He is someone who works hard and I understand that since starting the campaign on July 29, he has been actively meeting as many voters as possible in the Machang Bubok area," he added.

Lee is the former assemblyman for the Machang Bubok DUN and the area is witnessing a one-on-one contest between him and the candidate from Perikatan Nasional, Tan Hum Wei.

The Election Commission has set the polling date for the state election in Selangor, Kedah, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu, and Negeri Sembilan to be held concurrently on Aug 12, while early voting will take place on Aug 8. --BERNAMA
