KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in three states.
In a statement, the department said the public should expect thunderstorms up till 4pm in Johor, Sabah and Sarawak.
The areas involved are Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru in Johor.
Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Mukah (Tanjung Manis, Matu, Dalat and Mukah) and Kapit (Song) in Sarawak.
Meanwhile, in Sabah, the areas include Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud.
"A warning is issued when there are signs of a thunderstorm with rain intensity exceeding 20m per hour that is close or expected to occur for more than an hour.
"A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release," it said.
