12MP midterm review presented at Dewan Negara

KUALA LUMPUR: The 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) midterm review which was tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last week (Sept 11) has been presented to Dewan Negara, today.

The midterm review was presented by the Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli to Dewan Negara President Tan Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar for a debate session to take place at the upper house this week.

In his speech earlier, Rafizi thanked the members of Dewan Rakyat as the motion on the 12MP midterm review was unanimously passed with a majority voice note in the lower house yesterday.

"The mid-term review for the 12MP which was tabled by the prime minister has passed and was approved by the Dewan Rakyat yesterday (Sept 19).

"I am also grateful that the 12MP midterm review was generally well-received by all parties," he said when presenting the midterm review in the Dewan Negara.

The midterm review of 12MP tabled in Dewan Rakyat last Monday encompassed 17 policy shifts and radical approaches, in line with the current economic situation.

The expenditure ceiling of the 12MP was also raised by RM15 billion, bringing the total allocation for the plan to RM415 billion from RM400 billion allocated in 2021.

With the increase in allocation, the government also aimed to utilise at least RM90 billion per year for the remaining two years of the 12MP from 2023 to 2025 to upgrade people's wellbeing, while improving the quality of management and retargeting subsidies in meeting the people's basic needs.

Currently, at least 34 per cent of the allocation has been spent by the government for the first two years of 12MP.
