Healthier air quality readings nationwide today

KUALA LUMPUR: The overall air quality nationwide has shown major improvements compared to yesterday's reading at 8pm with 12 stations recording unhealthy API levels.

Only one area in the Klang Valley- Cheras, has recorded an unhealthy air quality reading with an Air Pollution Index (API) of over 100 as of 3pm today.

Based on the Environment Department's API, the air quality at the Cheras station reached 119 which makes it the only area in the country with an unhealthy API level so far.

The 12 stations that monitor the country's air quality levels include Seberang Jaya, Penang (110), Taiping (118), Tasek (106), Tanjung Malim (106) in Perak, and Nilai (126) in Negri Sembilan.

Meanwhile, Batu Muda and Cheras in Kuala Lumpur recorded a reading of 151 and 155 respectively followed by Putrajaya at 115.

In Selangor, areas with unhealthy air quality include Kuala Selangor (153), Petaling Jaya (153), Shah Alam (142), and Johan Setia (139).

All 12 stations mentioned have now recorded a moderate air quality reading under 95.

An API reading of 101 to 200 is categorised as unhealthy, while an air quality reading of between 0 and 50 is considered good.

The air quality drops to a very unhealthy level if an area or station registers an API reading of 201 to 300, while an API reading of 300 and above is hazardous.
