Penang too records unhealthy air quality

GEORGE TOWN: The state Department of Environment (DoE) has warned against any form of open burning activities after the state recorded unhealthy air quality.

The Air Pollutant Index (API) reading in Seberang Jaya this morning recorded an unhealthy level of between 106 and 109.

The situation improved later in the afternoon.

State DoE director Norazizi Adinan said that Penang too was not spared from unhealthy API reading over the past few days.

"However, it was only for several hours before the air quality level returned to moderate.

"This is because of the movement of wind.

"Nevertheless, we continue to monitor the situation closely, daily," he said.

Norazizi urged those who witnessed any open burning activity to report the matter.

"MET Malaysia has forecast rain for northern states in the next few days.

"The rain will certainly help in clearing the unhealthy air," he added.
