More than 52,000 hardcore poor families in Kelantan removed from category

KOTA BARU: More than 52,000 hardcore poor families in Kelantan have been removed from the category, said Jasri Kasim.

The director of the Kelantan Development Office of the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister's Department said the figure was recorded as of Sept 11.

He said the 52,000 were among 67,772 households categorised as poor or hardcore poor on eKasih.

"The 52,000 have been removed from the data due to several reasons, including having their income increased and their children managing to find jobs.

"Efforts to remove other hardcore poor families from the list are still on-going and the government is confident that it can put a stop to poverty by end of this year," he said.

Jasri said Kota Baru was the district with the largest number of hardcore poor families at 14,525, followed by Pasir Mas (7,962) and Tumpat (7,408).

He said the government has been carrying out various programmes to assist the hardcore poor by boosting their income.
