Thai PM: Proton-Geely JV showing interest to set up EV factory in Thailand

KUALA LUMPUR: Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin is looking forward to national carmaker Proton and Chinese carmaker Geely joint venture to set up an electric vehicle (EV) factory in Thailand.

"They (Proton and Geely) look to set up an EV factory in Thailand, with a meeting to be held later and hopefully, a clear next step can be establish and move forward quickly," Srettha said in a joint Press conference with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim earlier.

He however did not divulge details on the matter.

DRB-Hicom, the majority shareholder of Proton, had signed the Master Collaboration Agreement (MCA) with Geely Holdings for the development of Automotive Hi-Tech Valley (AHTV) in Tanjong Malim, Perak.
