Malaysia and Indonesia reactivate joint guard posts

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and Indonesia have reactivated the 14 joint guard posts along the countries' borders.

In a joint statement by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and his Indonesian counterpart Prabowo Subianto, they said the governments of both nations had succeeded in combating various cross-border crimes by mobilising its security authorities through a coordinated patrol mechanism.

After the 43rd Malaysia-Indonesia General Border Committee (GBC Malindo) in Jakarta, Indonesia, today, Mohamad said both governments had agreed to continue cooperation at the committee level to overcome peace and security issues and socioeconomic development at the borders.

"I am confident that with this existing cooperation and agreement, we will be able to overcome these challenges well, while maintaining peace and harmony.

"This also proves that the cooperation and the close relations between Malaysia and Indonesia is of great benefit to both countries in maintaining peace and security in the borders," he said.

Mohamad also said the 44th GBC Malindo next year would be held in Malaysia.
