HDC to develop new digital platform for faster halal certification process

KUALA LUMPUR: Halal Development Corporation Bhd (HDC) plans to develop a new digital platform for halal certification, in line with the government's aim in 2024 Budget to trim the processing period from 51 to 30 days.

Chairman Khairul Azwan Harun said that by integrating current applications and systems, the new platform would help expedite the process from pre-certification to approval and post-certification.

"HDC is confident that the shortened approval period to 30 days, as indicated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, can be implemented," he said in a statement.

During the tabling of the 2024 Budget on Friday, Anwar said HDC, together with the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim), would lead efforts to simplify the entire process of halal certification, especially for exporters of halal products.

Khairul said HDC will work closely with Jakim and related agencies to speed up the process so as to increase the trade value of Malaysia's halal product exports to the global market, as well as expand the total number of exporting companies with halal certificates. -- BERNAMA
