MP: Explain how a police officer can afford RM400,000 luxury watches

KUALA LUMPUR: Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng has urged the police to explain how one of their officers could allegedly afford to buy luxury watches priced over RM400,000 or risk tarnishing their reputation.

This is following an incident in which a police officer's wife, 41-year-old Datuk Mou Ei Leen claimed trial to stealing a Rolex Sky-Dweller (Model 326135) (priced at RM 207,000) and Rolex GMT Master-II 9 (Model 116718 LN) (priced at RM198,000) from her husband three years ago.

"Among the questions is, can a police officer afford to buy luxury goods that cost hundreds of thousands of ringgit? In addition, recently we were also exposed about the income of the police which is still at the old notch.

"The public needs to know where the officer in question was able to get the two watches, was the watch bought with the salary he received as a police officer or through some other method?

"If the police just remain silent in this case, it will only bring a bad name to them," he said in a statement.

Yesterday, Mou was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum punishment of 10 years imprisonment and a fine, upon conviction.

Her lawyer said she is in the process of divorcing her spouse, with whom she has lived separately for the past two years.

They were still living together when the alleged incident occured.
