Malaysia weighing the likelihood of hiring foreign workers in theme parks

KUALA LUMPUR: In a significant move aimed at prepping for Visit Malaysia Year in 2026, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail will consider the Tourism, Arts, and Culture Ministry (Motac)'s application for the relaxation of foreign worker requirements in the theme park sub-sector.

The decision comes as a response to the pressing demand for labour in light of the 78 theme parks nationwide.

"The government estimates that an additional 2,000 workers will be required to cater to the expected influx of visitors during Visit Malaysia Year," he said at a joint press conference with Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar after the 9th joint committee meeting on foreign worker management today.

Saifuddin expressed the necessity of this decision, emphasising the urgency to recruit the nearly 2,000 workers, a need that Motac had recognised while engaging with theme park operators.
