Malaysia's schools unite for Palestine: Palestine Solidarity Week activities

KUALA LUMPUR: In a move aimed at fostering empathy and nurturing humane values, the Education Ministry is poised to introduce Palestine Solidarity Week.

The week-long initiative, scheduled for Sunday (Oct 29) to Friday (Nov 3), will encompass all educational institutions under the ministry's purview, including schools, vocational and matriculation colleges, and teacher training institutes nationwide.

The primary objective of Palestine Solidarity Week is to instil in students a profound sense of human rights, courtesy, and compassion. It seeks to cultivate empathy and concern for the plight of individuals, irrespective of their race, religion, or social status.

An official letter addressed to division heads and state education directors outlines the key principles behind this significant educational effort.

The letter conveys the ministry's commitment to promoting compassion and offers a series of suggested activities to be considered during the Palestine Solidarity Week.

Among the activities are launching the Palestine Solidarity Week in schools during morning assembly, starting a fund for the Palestinians, and showing videos and playing songs highlighting the humanitarian issues in Palestine.

It also suggested spiritual programmes, including `bermunajat (prayers) and `solat hajat'.

Co-curricular activities related to humanitarian issues in Palestine are encouraged, including song, poem, and poster competitions designed to spark creativity and dialogue among students on this critical global concern.
