Taman Tasik Titiwangsa: A potential catalyst for Malaysia's tourism industry, says Johari

KUALA LUMPUR: Taman Tasik Titiwangsa, a hub for recreational and water sports activities in the city, holds the promise of significantly contributing to the country's tourism sector.

Titiwangsa member of Parliament Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said the beauty and cleanliness of the lake, which is situated in the city, is not only appealing among city dwellers but also people residing in other states as well as foreign tourists.

The former second finance minister highlighted the critical role of tourism as a driver of economic growth in the country.

"Before the Covid-19 pandemic, the tourism industry was a significant contributor, generating billions of ringgit in tourism receipts, thereby stimulating the country's economy.

"Despite the adverse economic impact brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, our country is gradually rebuilding its tourism industry.

"Taman Tasik Titiwangsa is a government-developed tourism product designed not only to captivate city and non-city residents but also tourists visiting our country," he told reporters after attending the launching of the White N Black Aquasports by My Legacy Entertainment Sdn Bhd here today.

Present were Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Kamarulzaman Mat Salleh and My Legacy Entertainment Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Mohd Firdaus Jamaluddin.

Earlier in his speech, Johari made several requests to the Kuala Lumpur City Hall to boost the appeal of Taman Tasik Titiwangsa as one of the main tourist attractions in the country.

Among the requests included for the city hall to consider building a multi-storey parking complex to address the lack of parking spaces as well as to extend the operation hours of restaurants and businesses operating at the park during weekends.

"The city hall needs allocation to build the multi-storey parking bays. Insya-Allah (God Willing), I will raise and propose the matter to the Finance Ministry during the tabling of the next budget," he said.

Regarding the launch of watersports activities by My Legacy Entertainment, Johari expressed optimism that this move would attract more people, especially tourists, to visit the park.

"I was made to understand that Tasik Titiwangsa is an iconic lake situated in the city, given its proximity to business premises and residential areas.

"Nonetheless, I hope that everyone, including traders and business operators in this area, will play their part in assisting the city hall in maintaining the beauty, cleanliness, and safety of the park," he added.
